Since the beginning of her university career, Lauren demonstrated her passion for serving the public. Through her participation in activities and societies, such as the Public Interest Research Group, Women’s Issues and LGBTQ+, Lauren positioned herself as a courageous and empathetic leader.

News and Achievements

After Huron, Lauren went on to pursue her dedication to bettering humanity by working in Tanzania where she is the Head of Education and Research for Ubongo – a non-profit social enterprise that creates interactive entertainment for the community’s children. Lauren supports her teams to create and distribute interactive cartoons that teach local children math and science skills, as they participate using mobile phones to interact with the show.

Adam Rice

Adam holds a BA in International Comparative Studies from Huron where he earned a certificate abroad at the University of Hong Kong. He then went on to complete a Masters in Communications and Management at Western University and most recently upgraded that degree into an MBA.

Adam’s travels have taken him to over 40 different countries, empowering him to develop comprehensive knowledge regarding cross-cultural communication and international business development. He is currently the CEO of Asset Direct of Canada Inc. as well as the CEO of LoanConnect – supporting clients to find options for credit.

News and Achievements

Most recently, Adam was celebrated by London Inc. magazine as one of London, Ontario’s Top 40 Under 40 business people in the area for his work with Asset Direct of Canada Inc. and LoanConnect.

Anika Conolly

Originally from the Cayman Islands, Anika came to Huron to bolster her global experiences and develop an understanding as to how she could better prepare herself to support a more vibrant future for people around the world.

News and Achievements

In 2011, Anika was named Miss Cayman Islands and in 2017, she represented her community – and ours – in the Miss Universe pageant. We’re so proud of Anika for demonstrating the importance of being beautiful – on the inside!

Jordan Wall

Economcs, Minor in Mathematics

After receiving his degree from Huron, Jordan went on to the University of Toronto to earn his Master of Arts in Economics. Over the past five years, he has worked hard within KPMG Canada to excel through to the position of Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing.

News and Achievements

In 2018, Jordan was one of only 32 Ontario students who made the National Honour Roll after sitting the Common Final Exam for CPA students. Out of 5,000 students across Canada, only approximately 60, in total, received this honour.

Shaun Ashley

Organizational and Human Resources

While at Huron, Shaun was heavily involved on campus – contributing to students’ safety and the wellbeing of his communities. From supporting Western Foot Patrol through to being a part of the HUCSC Charity Committee, Shaun was remained committed to making Huron a more compassionate and inclusive place.

News and Achievements

In 2017, Shaun’s hard work and talents were acknowledged by his long-time employer, BMO Financial Group, when he was promoted to the new role of Support Specialist for Workforce Strategy and Change Management in Toronto.

Chelsea Smith & Brett Wiepjes

Chelsea (Class ’11) and Brett (Class ’13) met at Huron during the completion of their undergrad. During her time at Huron, Chelsea completed her Honours BA in English Language & Literature and French Studies. She then went onto Law School at Western University and has now found her home as a lawyer at McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP.

While at Huron, Brett completed his History and Geography degree and then earned his Masters of Arts at Western University in American Studies. Brett stayed close to home and now works at Western as a Project Coordinator.

News and Achievements

On May 14, 2018, Brett and Chelsea returned to Huron to say, “I do” in our gorgeous Chapel. In commemoration of their time (and love story) here at Huron, they both wore their Huron pins. We couldn’t be happier for this beautiful couple. Congratulations!

Taylor Harris

In 2014, Taylor was accepted to Cambridge University to pursue its world-renowned LLB program. In 2015, he secured an internship at Hogan Lovells International LLP. He is now continuing with Hogan Lovells, while completing his degree, to become a fully accredited UK solicitor.

Kassandra participated in Huron’s Scholars Electives Program, so she was able to take advantage of several unique learning opportunities during the attainment of her degree. One of the great opportunities she seized was the chance to complete her thesis on First Nations health care policy in Canada and the development of culturally aware services.

After Huron, Kassandra went on to complete her Master of Arts (Political Science) at McMaster University. From 2017-2018 she served as an Ontario Legislative Intern.

News and Achievements

Most recently, Kassandra was awarded the Canadian Political Science Association’s (CPSA) prize for best poster presentation at the CPSA Congress in Regina. The Jury reported Kassandra’s poster and her responses to jury inquiries indicated an exceptional awareness of the large context in which the uniqueness of her case is located.

Matteo Maciel, BA’15

Political Science

Originally headed for Ivey, Matteo changed his direction to remain within Huron’s unique Liberal Arts environment where he developed exceptional critical thinking, creative problem solving and persuasive communication skills. This repertoire of attributes positioned Matteo for success in his chosen field; law – a career path deeply influenced by another one of our esteemed alumni, Richard McLaren.

After Huron, Matteo attended the University of York where he attained his LLB.

News and Achievements

Matteo’s success in law school surprised even him: he finished first in the class overall for each year, which resulted in acceptances to the Oxford BCL, Cambridge, UCL and LSE LLMs. He was also published in the leading practitioner peer-reviewed journal Trusts & Trustees; and gained commercial experience at top international firms.

A big congratulations to Matteo, who is now an Oxford University Bachelor of Civil Law Candidate, for his astounding success – we can’t to see what’s in store next.

Recent grad, Lindsay is a public figure who has carved out an exceptional career in rodeo. She is described by her supporters, fans and judges as having poise, unyielding dedication to excellence and an ability to adapt to and excel in high-pressure situations.

News and Achievements

In 2018, she was crowned the Calgary Stampede Queen. Due to her wonderful public speaking skills, charisma and talent, during her reign, Lindsay made more than 400 appearances as the Stampede Ambassador. Congratulations!
