What is the RBC Innovation Bootcamp?

The RBC Innovation Bootcamp is a three-day virtual bootcamp designed for arts, social science and business students.  This is an opportunity for you to get experience solving real-world problems for a local organization.

You will be placed into teams of five and assigned a challenge that needs an innovative solution. Together, your team will come up with ideas to solve the problems and pitch your ideas to a panel of judges. The team that comes up with the best idea takes home $2,500.

Past challenges include:

  • How might we use our newly developed online engagement to help reach more people and address our program waitlists?
  • How might we develop a strategy to effectively participate in policy discussions around food literacy in schools?
  • How might we develop a marketing and communications strategy that leads to increased fundraising and donor support?

FAQs

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BOOTCAMP?

You must be a current Huron student to apply to participate in The RBC Community Innovation Bootcamp.

I AM AN ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCE STUDENT AND I DON’T HAVE A BUSINESS BACKGROUND. SHOULD I APPLY FOR THIS WORKSHOP?

Great question! Yes absolutely, this bootcamp is designed for arts, social science and business students to bring together diverse perspectives to help local organizations. You don’t need to be a business student to benefit from business skills, and we need creative ideas that come from collaborating across disciplines in order to be able to solve pressing issues in new ways.

CAN I REGISTER FOR THE COMPETITION AS A GROUP WITH MY CLASSMATES OR FRIENDS?

In order to keep the competition fair among all participants and ensure the groups have different backgrounds, you may only participate in the competition as an individual. However please share the event opportunity with your friends and encourage them to register for the event as well!

I CAN ONLY ATTEND ONE DAY OF THE BOOTCAMP, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?

To get the full experience it’s important to be there every day for the full duration of the sessions. This program will be offered twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, so if you are not able to participate fully this time then we recommend you wait until the fall.

WILL CERTIFICATES ONLY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO WIN THE COMPETITIONS?

No. All students who participate in the program will receive a certificate from Huron that you can add to your resume, helping to set you apart from other candidates. Students who attend each optional workshop will have that designation added onto their certificate.
