LONDON, ON: Huron is excited to announce on February 14, 2019, Dr. Geoff Read, 1998 Huron University graduate, will be appointed to the position of Vice-President, Academic, and Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Science. Dr. Read’s appointment will run until June 30, 2024 and is subject for renewal.

Dr. Read is a London native who attended Huron College, as it was then called, as an undergraduate. During that time, Dr. Read earned a B.A. in History and French. He then went on to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from York University. Dr. Read is the author of The Republic of Men: Gender and the Political Parties in Interwar France (Baton Rouge: Louisiana State University Press, 2014), as well as numerous journal articles.

“Throughout my time at Huron, I have been convinced that our university offers its students the very best liberal arts education in Canada – an education that helps them understand the world around them and approach it with wisdom and compassion,” Dr. Read says. “I am devoted to Huron and its budding Leaders with Heart and am committed to working with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and administrators to make Huron a globally-recognized leader in liberal arts education.”

Dr. Read’s time at Huron dates back to when his own father taught at the university. A member of the Department of History, Dr. Read has served as interim Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences since July 1, 2018. Prior to that appointment, Dr. Read established an extensive record of university service. In 2018, Dr. Read was the recipient of the Huron University College Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Teaching Award.

“I am delighted to appoint Geoff Read to this role,” says Dr. Barry Craig, President, Huron University. “He has a long attachment to Huron and knows it inside and out. I know he has the community’s confidence and he will be an integral part of Huron’s success going forward.”

Outside of the university, Dr. Read spends time both coaching minor hockey and cheering on his children in their sporting events.
