Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies
The small classroom setting at Huron offers an ideal learning platform for students seeking to deepen their knowledge of Islamic religious heritage. As a pedagogue, I strive to move from a transmission of Islamic religious texts into a holistic transformation of the human self.
My pedagogical philosophy is guided by a holistic consideration of each student’s personal and intellectual aptitudes combined with the collective enrichment of interactive learning. The small classroom setting at Huron offers an ideal learning platform for students seeking to deepen their knowledge of Islamic religious heritage. As a pedagogue, I strive to move from a transmission of Islamic religious texts into a holistic transformation of the human self.
Previous to my position at Huron, I was a sessional lecturer in Islamic studies at Emmanuel College (University of Toronto) and an invited lecturer at the University of Chicago, Divinity School (Chicago) and College of the Humanities, Carleton University (Ottawa).
My accomplishments include completing the first comprehensive dissertation on the Sufi mystical theology of Amīr Abd al-Qādir al-Jaza’iri (d. 1883) at the University of Toronto. My research interests include Qur’anic exegesis, Sufism, Islamic theology, philosophy, and ethics.
