Professor, Islamic Studies; London and Windsor Community Chair in Islamic Studies

Ingrid Mattson, PhD
My teaching goal is have students engage with a broad diversity of Islamic thought and practice in order to contextualize current events and to understand how Islam is a dynamic source of meaning for a large part of humanity in the past and today.

There are two great advantages in studying Islam at Huron. First, due to our small class size, we are able to have lively and intense discussions engaging all present in the classroom. Second, we have a culture of respectful engagement of all religious faiths and points of view, allowing for deep and critical conversations about one of the most important aspects of the human experience, historically and in contemporary life.

Summary of Research:

  • Islamic Theological Ethics
  • Muslim Women’s Spirituality
