Health & Travel Insurance

We want you to stay safe and healthy while you’re enjoying your exchange program. Students are strongly encouraged to purchase insurance in addition to their UHIP/OHIP coverage. The Government of Canada has great information on what type of insurance you need and why you should purchase additional travel insurance.

Funding for Outgoing Exchange Students

Huron’s generous supporters have provided funding for students who wish to participate in study abroad opportunities.

Patricia Boucher Memorial International Exchange Travel Grant
Hugh B. and Dorothy Rooney International Travel Bursary
Nancy and Keith Sumner Fund for International Studies

Established in 2000 in memory of Patricia Boucher, an exchange student from Universite de Versailles Saint-Quentin, through the generous support of her family and the many friends she made among the students at Huron University College.

It is intended to assist a student with travel expenses associated with the Huron/Universite de Versailles Saint-Quentin exchange program.

The recipient must be registered in a full-time program at Huron University and demonstrate financial need.

If no Huron student is eligible, the bursary may assist a Versailles student on exchange at Huron or assist a Huron student participating in an exchange with another European university.

Value: approx. $2,000 (open to several students)

The Bursary is intended to assist a third-year student with the added expenses incurred in a program of study abroad.

The recipient must be a registered full-time student at Huron and demonstrate financial need. The Rooney family established The Hugh B. and Dorothy Rooney International Travel Bursary in 1996 to honour Hugh and Dorothy Rooney, long-term friends and members of the Huron Community.

Mr. Rooney served Huron with distinction in many roles from 1959 to 1972 including lecturer in Business and Economics, Dean of Residence, Comptroller, Corporation and Board Member, Bursar, and later Assistant Vice-Principal at Western University.

Mrs. Rooney was known as “nurse” to many students when the Rooney family lived at Huron University College. Sadly, Mrs. Rooney passed away in January, 1995.

Value: approx. $1,000

Established in 2006 by Nancy and Keith Sumner, this Fund provides financial support to a student or students for study abroad at a university with which Huron has a partnership agreement, for credit towards their academic degree at Huron, and who qualifies for the study abroad program based on criteria established by Huron University.

Keith Sumner is a long-time friend of Huron who has served as President of The Huron University Foundation and, prior to that, as Chair of its Investment Committee.

Value: approx. $1,000
