It attracts students who are drawn to service and determined to use their academic and career success to positively impact global society and take on the world’s toughest challenges.

Therefore, this scholarship is quite holistic in nature and looks far beyond your grades alone: it is assessed on a combination of three main components in the application process:

Academics: A minimum predicted or mid-year average of 90% in your current most senior year of high school. If you’re at an IB Diploma school, you’ll need a minimum predicted score of 35 IBDP points or higher (including bonus points for EE & TOK). If you’re currently pursuing A-Levels or AS-levels, you’ll need predicted scores of A or A* across all courses.

Extracurricular: In the application, you can describe between 1 to 5 of your most notable extra-curricular, leadership or community service achievements from throughout your high school years. These can be achievements within your school or even those in your community outside of school. Huron also recognizes that the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted your ability to be involved in such activities: so this year, the application has been amended to include more forward-looking questions about your passions, future goals and aspirations.

School Nomination: Your school counsellor will complete a nomination form and submit a Recommendation Letter to give the Scholarship Committee a greater insight into the kind of student and leader that you are.

Step 1 – Apply to Huron

Submit an application to a Huron program for September 2023.

Step 2 – Nomination

In order to be considered for the International Presidential Scholarship, a school nomination is required. In the application, you will be required to include the name and email of the person who will provide your nomination. Once submitted, they will receive an email to complete the nomination.

Step 3 – Complete the International Presidential Scholarship Application

Please complete the required components of the application. You can save and return/edit the application to review before submission.

All components of the International Presidential Scholarship application must be received by Huron before February 1, 2023.

The Huron International Financial Aid Form (HIFAF)

Deadline: February 1, 2023

Huron is proud to be one of the only universities in Canada to offer international students aid on the basis of financial need, rather than just merit alone. We believe the transformative, world-class education at Huron should be accessible to all students who possess the potential and talent to meet our admission standards, while minimizing financial barriers to deserving students as much as possible.

The Huron International Financial Aid Form (HIFAF) is designed for students who are still facing challenges in affording a Huron education, despite any International Entrance Scholarship which they may have received. It allows students who can demonstrate this financial need, to be considered for additional financial aid by submitting the HIFAF application and supporting documents.

The amount of financial aid that can be granted to a student ranges from 5% of tuition fees annually to an absolute maximum of 50% of tuition fees annually, renewable for all four years of your studies at Huron. The final amount of financial aid granted is based entirely on Huron’s assessment of your application and the sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Please note, any amounts granted based on your HIFAF application cannot be combined with the International Presidential Scholarship, if you are selected. The maximum amount of scholarships or financial aid granted for students who submit both applications, would still be 50% of tuition fees. Students will be responsible for all remaining tuition, ancillary and residence/meal plan fees.

If you are facing challenges affording your Huron education, despite any International Entrance Scholarship which you have already been granted, then we encourage you to complete and submit the Huron International Financial Aid Form (HIFAF). During this application, you will also be required to upload the following supporting documents:

  • Detailed, latest Income Tax returns
  • Latest pay slips from guardian(s)’ employer(s)
  • Bank statements from July 1, 2022 until now, including statements of bank savings, fixed deposits, as well as other investments (e.g. market value of shares/bonds/mutual funds) held at your respective bank(s)/institution(s). If you and/or your guardians have multiple bank accounts, you must disclose statements from all bank accounts.

Their father, Mr. W. Gerald Strongman graduated from Huron in 1963, and was later appointed National Chairperson of the Huron College Parents’ Association. Bursaries are non-repayable grants offered by the university that are awarded on the basis of financial need.  Bursaries supplement a student’s primary source of funding such as OSAP, bank loan/line of credit and parental/spousal contributions.  Financial need is determined in a manner similar to the Canada and Ontario Student Loans assessment.  It involves assessing the costs of the program that students are registered in, as well as any available resources (RESP’s, part-time employment, etc.).

In order to be eligible for bursary assistance, students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, be registered at Huron in a full or part-time program and demonstrate genuine financial need.

Bursaries can be applied for at any time as the need arises until funds are exhausted.  There is no deadline.
